A change is as good as a holiday

Just a few hours down the road was far enough away for me to feel as if Sydney and the hustle and bustle were worlds away.

Had a terrific lunch at Berry Sourdough Cafe - French onion soup and wholemeal sourdough pizza - delish!!  The pace was just right - nice sleep-in's, watching movies, reading and brewing pot after pot of warming coffee.   The weather was like a perfect winter's day all weekend.

On our way home I pulled over to take some shots of the local supermodels - the cows - redheads, blondes and striking raven haired beauties.  I'd tried to have a chat earlier with them and they'd taken one look at me and decided I wasn't holding anything edible and ignored me.  This time around the farm owner was feeding them some lucerne so I asked if I could take some shots and have a chat to them.  I was pleased to learn they were all pregnant ladies and one was ready to pop any day now.  Luckily I had some leftover sourdough bread which, is apparently, their favourite thing to eat.  It had to be big pieces, the farmer told me, or they wouldn't take it from me.

It's nice to stop and take the time to chat to the locals and learn a bit of their story. I was surprised to know I was actually speaking to "Mr Jordan" from years ago.  He was a robust 76 years old and still going strong and it was clear the south coast lifestyle treats people well and keeps them healthy.  I definitely plan on retiring somewhere like where we stayed ( - it was just the thing to recharge some low batteries.

Reflections on Nuffnang Blogopolis

It was great to attend Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012 on June 30.  I met so many interesting people there who have been blogging for years as well as attending some master classes around photography and design that were perfect for me.  I felt like I had much to learn and understand where the 'blogosphere' is at in Australia.  There's a supportive community out there but it's key to remember that your blog is whatever you want it to be.  A space shared with family and friends or open to the rest of the blog reading world to inspire you or give you a dose of reality.  I felt very welcomed and even ventured onto Twitter for the first time - I'm @momentswithkate.  The twitter feed was going crazy in the first part of the conference which was a little distracting.

I was keen on attending a blog workshop to give me more confidence in using Photoshop and Illustrator last weekend as well to inject some style and design into this layout- more pressing family issues meant I had to reschedule to October so desperate for that weekend to get here.

This weekend - I'm heading to a favourite short break destination down in Berry and have booked a dinner at Hungry Duck which has been recommended by a friend. Looking forward to some good eats and some relaxing country atmosphere - stokin' up the woodburning fire, doing some reading - all away from the craziness that can be Sydney.

Will share photos and food opinions on my return.  Details on the lovely cabins I'm snoozing at are here -

Below are some shots from an Autumn weekend in Canberra - my home town.  Loving the colours and changing leaves that Autumn brings!

Under the Weather

This week feels like a long one....and today as I hit the bus stop sans umbrella, the rain came  showering down.

This week has been another kick off...the fitness journey began this week.  I'll admit it's a journey I've been on a few times before.  Two PT sessions down and I'm walking around like I'm 90 and can't break a full stride.  A trip to the toilet is a round trip of at least 10 mins and it's no more then 20 metres each way.

So any tips and tricks to get over the 'delayed onset muscle soreness' or whatever my trainer calls it are welcome.  I'll be on the lounge lathering up the limbs in deep heat cream.   It's times like these I wish I had one of the "Dawson chairs".

So bring on the weekend!  I'm heading to Nuffnang Blogopolis to soak up some more blogging skills and hopefully absorb some of these right after.

Eggplants rock!

Eggplants rock!

Wow time flies when you've got a new blog.  I've been putting lots of thought into the posts I want to do and the topics that are meaningful to me so a bit of time has passed since my first post.  Now to put it all to practice.

I love cooking so I'm always on the lookout for more additions to my cookbook (foodporn) collection.  Most recently I was watching Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall on River Cottage Vegetables series and the Melanzane Parmigiana caught my eye.  The idea of a few meat-free nights a week really appeals and this recipe is hearty and filling - a must during these winter months.

It is a top recipe - find it here.

The finished product is below,  a great alternative to lasagne.

Kicking Off!

Well, this is my first ever post.

Lately I've had a lot of spare time on my hands so I decided to put it to good use and make this creative space for me.  I've always had an interest in social media and I love sharing recipes, photos, stories, anything related to photography/interiors/ design and just moments from the everyday with friends and family.

So it's all going to happen from here - I'm ready to learn and share new things, maybe make some mistakes and make new friends along the way.  Join me!
